Body Scan Relaxation for Athletes

A guided mindfulness practice that moves attention through the body to release tension, calm the mind, and improve recovery and sleep.

Why it works

Systematically relaxing the body lowers physical and mental arousal, which speeds recovery, improves sleep quality, and builds body awareness that helps you spot and release tension during competition.

How to do it

    Settle in

    Lie down or sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take a few slow breaths.

  2. 2

    Scan from the feet up

    Move your attention slowly from your feet to your head, noticing each area.

  3. 3

    Release tension

    As you notice tightness, breathe into it and consciously let it soften.

  4. 4

    Finish with whole-body awareness

    Rest your attention on the whole body, calm and relaxed, for a few breaths.

When to use it

In the evening to wind down, before sleep, on recovery days, or any time you need to release physical and mental tension.
